MUSIC!EXISTS

MUSIC!EXISTS was first a thought halfway through 2023. The goal of MUSIC!EXISTS was, (and still is), to create an accessible and free event to showcase young bands and artists from the area, and also promote and encourage people to get involved in the music scene in the Clutha district. The first MUSIC!EXISTS was held in April, 2024 and was mainly focused around opportunities for young musicians, however I am working on opening up more opportunities in the surrounding areas such as photography/videography, stage management, lighting, and sound. Through MUSIC!EXISTS I also want to encourage young people to take the step into the music scene by showing what it can turn into; for rangatahi or people just starting out in music.

2025 sees Unifone coming onboard as a sponsor, if you are interested in hopping onboard alongside them to support the objective of making this a free event please feel free to reach out.

2024

The year of the first MUSIC!EXISTS; In 2024 we had artists such as Keira Wallace, Black Tomato Sauce, a few others who are well known in the Ōtepoti music scene, and my band. All the artists/bands who played were absolutely amazing. Although it didn’t go perfectly, it went well enough that I had the confidence and encouragement to do it again. In fact, many of the bands were keen to participate for another year which was the main encouragement. I took 2024 as an example of what went well, and what could be changed for the next MUSIC!EXISTS, such as including more areas for young people to get involved in, planning out the day better, (and remembering spoons for backstage).

2025

With this year comes the return of artists such as Keira Wallace and Eris. This year also brought the ability to create more opportunities. As this was one of my main goals for MUSIC!EXISTS, I am very happy with this. On top of nearly double the amount of bands playing this year compared to last, I also have a team of professional photographers/videographers who are capturing the event and showing the ropes within a live environment to upcoming talent. As well as that I also have two bands from Balclutha playing which is so awesome. With this comes hope that it will encourage even more people to get involved in the scene as they see even more people they know playing, and a more experienced local band to showcase again, what it can become.
